CHAPTERS have been unfolding for a little over a year, we discovered how artifacts circulate between lab and stage, between process and performance. Each CHAPTER has introduced new methods of making, new collaborators, and new kinds of shared attention. We have now found our footing in the creative sciences and digital fictions or new media formats.
ARTIFICE: 005
ARTIFICE: 005 brought together physical works grown and formed from biomaterials, live digital performance, a bio-fashion showcase, and a communal cakescape offered during intermission. It was our most layered chapter yet, and it asked us to stretch our thinking around ecology, ritual, and the textures of the body.
This chapter also marked a shift in our internal structure. We are glad to welcome:
Caitlin Therien, 005 WHITEBOX Producer
Shiva Viswanathan, IRL Community Manager
Tina Zhao, Artifice Associate
Their presence shifts how we move, plan, and imagine future Chapters.
nodes: i
Alongside these developments, we introduced the first iteration of nodes:i, a network-focused series that bridges lab and stage, centering on process and the exchange of resources. Conceived as an institutional sandbox for artists and community, nodes serves as a space for experimentation, dialogue, and co-authorship.
Our inaugural gathering emerged in collaboration with our partners at UAAD and the Processing Foundation, bringing together new and returning artists to present and perform through their work. The evening unfolded at a slower tempo, one of collective listening, reflection, and mutual observation.
Through these gatherings, we begin to trace the ideas that circulate beneath the surface of our productions, the cultural and technological conditions that shape how and why we make work.

Sights and Sounds; A Visual Auditory Experience (Sights by Artifice)
As our community continues to grow, we are grateful to expand conversations around making more events like this possible. One of our 005 artists, N/A(Z), is the co-director of Sights and Sounds, a visual and auditory event series that merges art and music into multi-sensory immersive experiences. N/A(Z) recognized Artifice’s curatorial vision and invited us to curate as part of Sights and Sounds’ next event, taking place on Saturday, Dec 6 at 53 Scott Ave. We are excited to explore our curatorial approach with GumGum Studios and curate artists across this 2-floor exhibition event.
Within this collaboration, Artifice curates the Sights; the visual, spatial, and worldbuilding dimension of the experience; extending its ongoing inquiry into how science fiction can function as both process and method.
Artifice approaches Sights as an experiment in perception, translating data, sound, and movement into visual form. The production unfolds through two interdependent environments, the Techno Floor (Science) and the House Floor (Fiction), creating a dialogue between machine interpretation and human transmission.
In this iteration, Artifice transforms Sights into a living system of light, projection, and signal that converge to form sensory narratives that are both mechanical and emotional. Sights and Sounds becomes not just a performance but an act of world-building; a space where science and fiction meet through image, vibration, and design.
Artifice is a creative science-fiction studio shaping + linking artifacts through lab + stage. Our modus operandi is artifacts over authorship.
